A web directory is a directory website on the World Wide Web. A web directory website is not a search engine and does not show lists of web pages or link based on keywords; instead, it lists websites by category and sub-category. Most web directory entries are also not found by web crawlers but by humans.

What is directory submission?
Directory submission is basically filling of your websites element in online web directory website. Online directory submission is a method which includes classification of appropriate category and filing the website or webpage element in particular related category and get it permitted by directory editor. It is not merely a data entry procedure it involve the decision of choosing a appropriate category which can be carried only by smart directory submitter.

• Free submission – there is no fee for the review and listing of the website
• Reciprocal link – a link back to the directory must be added anywhere on the submitted site in order to get listed in the directory
• No Reciprocal link — a web directory where you will submit your links for free and no need to add any link back to your website.
• Paid submission – a one-time or recurring fee is charged for reviewing and listing the submitted link
• No follow – there is a rel="nofollow" attribute related with the link, meaning search engines will give no weight to the link.
• Featured listing – the link is given a top position in a category (or multiple categories) or other sections of the directory, such as listing in the homepage. It also called sponsored listing.
• Bid for position – where sites are ordered based on bids, priority to the top bidder.
• Affiliate links – where the directory earns commission for referred clients from the listed websites
